I've never heard of Rep Swalwell until this trial, but now I'm very impressed! He's from a family of police officers, first in his family to go to college, Div 1 soccer scholarship, became a prosecutor after law school. I think we need way more people like him in the US, who are able to succeed through hard work, and can move himself up the ladder through his abilities. Not sure why you're singling him out, Clyde. Is it possible because he's a very effective prosecutor in this trial. I almost cried when he talked about how, when he talks to his brothers, who are officers, he doesn't say "have a good day", he says "stay safe". And you know, Trump says he is for the police, but for several hours he watched as his crowd were beating up on the police. This is absolute proof to me that while Trump says a lot of things that sound good, like he's all for law and order, he actually only cares about one thing, himself.

Democratic Impeachment managers upheld a vision of just USA and called upon the Senate to do what the founding fathers envisioned when they provided in the Constitution an impeachment clause for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

This is enough of a victory for me. The GOP senators who vote against conviction will go down in history as a disgrace.

I would have liked to see the Senate get the super majority vote of 67 to convict him of impeachment.

I don't believe those quotes. Not that they didn't say it, but who was saying it. Politics have gotten so fucked up, people losing thier damn minds. Who knows if those people quoted were antifa or repubs/maga assholes ?

Jacob Chansley - the "QAnon shaman" from Arizona who wore a Viking pelt to the riot - told the FBI he was in DC "at the request of President Trump".

A lawyer for Robert Bauer, a Kentucky man, said he "marched to the US Capitol because President Trump said to do so".

So, those are direct quotes from rioters who were arrested. There are plenty more clips out there if you just do a little independent research (though I know you like the kool-aid you are given by the alt-right propaganda networks so I'm not counting on that). Anyway, in the end, let's hear what they use as their defense in a legal setting. We may also hear from some of these people in the impeachment trial going on right now, though I think that's unlikely given that impeachments, as we are learning, is not really a place for justice to be done.

I will add: the USA was born in the violence of Revolutionary War sanctioned by the Declaration of Independence and Continental Congress.

I like for the most party how Jefferson justified that violence.

The secession states in 1861 modeled there own defense of secession on the Declaration, and they were explicit that they were fighting to defend white supremacy and slavery.

We have two models or examples from history: 1776 rebellion and Confederate rebellion.

For me, Nat Turner and John Brown led justified rebellions: a fight for liberty and justice. MLK Jr led a non-violent rebellion for the same just causes.

The Confederacy fought an unjust rebellion on behalf of white supremacy and slavery.

I see the rebellion incited by Trump as similarly unjust and it was fitting that one of the rebels carried a Confederate flag into the Capitol.

Trump in his opinions on Charlottesville in 2017 let us know that he was willing to side with Confederates and violence on behalf of white supremacy and as he did his winking support to the Proud Boys in the debate.

We are still fighting the Civil War in many ways in this country, and as dime of the posts here show, some folks are willing to side with the Confederacy and against the spirit of 1776 and the letter of the Constitution of 1789

@flip, I don't what you mean by my party, I'm an independent. Not registered and I can prove it. I can see why you might think I'm a hard-core Democrat because of all the posts I have against the Trump administration, but like a lot of people, including former Republicans, I really think Trump was a doozy of a bad one. I mean, how many times have you seen a rabid mob ransack the Capitol?

Also, I know that the alt-right news likes to link BLM and anitifa with the Democratic party, but there is a BIG difference in the relationships. If you ask a BLM or Antifa person, they never ever say "XXX democratic leader told me to do it". You ask the Capitol insurrectionists, and they'll tell you "Trump said to do it". BLM and Antifa are home-grown movements, not created by the Democratic party. I would say if anything, the Democrats disavow Antifa, but they do support the aims of BLM, which is really just that there should be racial equity in this country. In general I think the Democratic party is for equity overall, whether it is for working people (hence why they are pro-Union), and also minorities if the minorities are being discriminated against. That's VERY different from saying that they created BLM and incited them to protest.

I see they want to backpedal and call witnesses , the Trump team only used 3 hours of the 16 hours to state their case , the Trump team will continue to make the Dems look like a bunch of clowns as usual.
