Sapp.....you are correct I don't know or understand the people in your area fully. I do know we are very different. The south like all places has issues that needs improvement but the stereotype of the south being so racist is absolutely ignorant. My generation knows our history and the mistakes made by generations before us. People here get along much better than others places. My kids as I were raised to respect our elders no matter color. We say thank you to whomever no matter the color. We will buy, sell, talk, laugh no matter color. Here religion is something special to many and by far Christianity is the religion people follow no matter their color. I am a Christian myself but I am not the Christian I should be so I rarely speak to people about it. I do despise people who talk down to people who believe though. Things such as the Bible being a fairy tale book or calling God a sky daddy are very ignorant and narrow minded. If you don't believe, why worry if someone else does. Maybe Democrats as a hole should look at why they have lost the blue collar middle class. Why were they a huge contributor to Trump? Why are college professors and teachers so Biden supportive? I as a parent never liked 1 of my kids teachers in high school pushing their political beliefs on my kids and I always met with them on the issue. Teachers jobs are to teach the course and leave your political views in the parking lot. That is a big reason here many parents choose private education. To simplify.....what is good in California is not neccessary good in Alabama and vice versa. The country is on a seesaw with our leaders constantly flipping from 1 extreme to another. Creates pissed off and confused people.
2nd impeachment
Nope....
The British invaded the continent. They sent their undesirables, debters and felons here. They didn't discover the land nor were they invited.
They killed, raped, pillaged and stole the land. Then enslaved the natives, and later Africans. After winning their Revolutionary War, they created a Constitution.
That is what you call a multi-century headstart. The playing field has never been even. That's the reason for the unrest. People fear they are losing their grip on power and future wealth.
"country started by white Europeans."
LOL.
You are an idiot...
J_C55,
For whatever wide range of experience I have had in my 60+ years of life interacting with a wide range of people in different places and cities in the USA, I feel I only know what it is like to be a white male in the middle class who is college educated and who is from NJ-NYC-Connecticut area and the SF area and Los Angeles.
I think it is arrogant and unwise to make claims about the experience of others outside of our own limited identity, and posts in this Forum make me wonder how well some people even know themselves in real honesty,.
J_C555,
You are right: I don't have any real feel for the people in your area. I've never been in Alabama. I'm familiar with politicians from Alabama such as Jeff Sessions and Mo Brooks (and before that George Wallace) and not much more,.
I interact professionally with people your age every day of the work week.
For understanding, people between the ages of 27-35, I have 5 out of 6 kids (3 from a first marriage and 3 stepkids from a second marriage) in that age range,
For understanding the youngest generation of voters, I've interacted closely with a younger generation of people from most parts of the United States and from various countries in the world and from each race/ethnicity every day of my life at work for the last 35 years. I daresay I know this generation much more than you do. If you have doubts about this, message me privately.
Do I know people very well from every social class? No. I'm least familiar with blue collar, working class people, and I am not familiar with people from rural areas. I know best people from urban areas on each coast and then the suburbs.
I'm by far most familiar personally with college educated people or people with advanced degrees. I'm married to a woman who has a 2 year degree from a community college.
I don't claim any close familiarity with anyone now living in a state that went Red in the 2020 election. I do have a sister who lives in Georgia.
How well do any of us know well or by name more than 400-500 people?
There are of course ways to learn about people other than interacting with them personally, and that is in part from studying the polls and demographic studies that are often cited in reporting and on sites devoted to political analysis. I look at this stuff.
But the key issue is: how curious and empathetic are we to try to figure out people who are different from ourselves in terms of class, race, sexual orientation, and political identity. I feel I have that curiosity.
But I don't know anyone personally who is QAnon and I know personally very few people who go to church most Sundays or identify, if you will, as evangelical.
I have had intimate relationships with people of every major race and four different religions, and this is not counting at all contacts through lifestyle.
More important, in regards to politics, while I'm a lifelong Democrat and identify as on the left, I've started a post where I've expressed key criticisms of every single Democratic president and given praise to every Republican president in my lifetime for something. I welcome you to try doing that.
8inch......country started by white Europeans. Laws set by people who started it. Wealth then is like today. Some have it and some don't. Half a million white men died to end slavery. Country has changed and adapted before my time and yours. Military and police are necessary as they are in most other countries.
Who wrote the Federal and State Constitutions?
Who wrote the Federal and state laws?
Who were they written for? Who was excluded?
Who ran the courts?
Who created the police?
Who created the military?
Who was allowed to own land and vote?
Who had centuries of family wealth and employment to earn money for future generations?
When was this power given up?
You believe the playing field is currently or ever been fair and equal?
Tbrm......likewise. You are a waste of oxygen in my opinion
"Look at tbrm for instance."
You have no concept of where I have (or am) coming from...
"Tbrm......you grade an F."
People who don't believe in prayer in schools have never taken a class I teach...
Yourluv......well go ahead.
I'm in the perfect position to tell you what my experiences are. Are you?
Yourluv......do you actually think you are the only one to have a bad experience with a cop? You don't know SHIT. I can hit all caps also.
Yourluv. . .you are in no position to tell people they are privileged because you believe a myth blown up your ass by a bunch of white libs.
And you don't dictate what I EXPERIENCE.
Yourluv.....I will call it as I see it. You do not dictate what I say.
I don't exaggerate. You are not in a position to know that or not.
2much....many ways for you to counter it. Say you or a child recieve a scholarship, simply hand it over to minority. If you get a good paying job, let a minority have it. If you receive a promotion at work, turn it down so a minority can have it. Give away some of your land to a minority. Give up your spot in a checkout line to a minority. If you receive an inheritance by all means give away a good amount to a minority. So many things like that you recieved because of your white privilege.
2much.....in today's world those claims are overly exaggerated.
Didn't say anyone was pulled over for their color.
Said that I never have any fear for my life when pulled over for a traffic stop. The people of color I have talked to don't feel the same.
What are your suggestions for the many ways we can counter our privilege?
2much....how do you know people are pulled over for their color? Have you witnessed it? Do you know for fact they were threatened? Many ways to counter your supposed privilege. I thought white privilege was a much broader issue than a traffic stop.
Why do you feel we need to counter our privilege? Just recognize that you have it.
How can we counter our advantage when getting pulled over for speeding versus a person of color? I've never feared for my life when dealing with the police. I just think about how much this ticket is going to cost.
Sapp.....we all are more sarcastic on here. Look at tbrm for instance. Just a do nothing idiot who seems to work in education. Probably draws a state salary with benefits and good retirement yet gets on places like this and tries to talk down to people who basically pay his salary. Talks about things like white privilege but has done nothing to counter his own. He dodges it when asked what has he sacrificed to counter white privilege
Sapp....A- is a stretch. Probably a B+. You clearly do not relate at all to people my age and my area. You assume things off books from liberal writers from things that happened in the 60's and prior to that. People my age do not relate to that.
Sn.....Biden is trained in political correctness. Says the right things but will do another. He will not let his son go down.
