"Read the label on your Tamari bottle. If it does not have the words wheat, rye, barley or malt, or does not have a warning saying that it was processed on equipment that processes wheat, rye, barley or malt, then someone that is gluten intolerant or has true Celiac disease CAN have the Tamari."

Read the label on your Tamari bottle. If it does not have the words wheat, rye, barley or malt, or does not have a warning saying that it was processed on equipment that processes wheat, rye, barley or malt, then someone that is gluten intolerant or has true Celiac disease CAN have the Tamari.

You would know better than me on what triggers an allergic reaction. I'd just heard Tamari is a gentile substitute and we have it on hand just because a friend gave it to the Mrs. Yes or no?

Soy itself is a bean, not a sauce. Soybeans do 'not' have gluten.

htt ps://en.wikipedia.or g/wiki/Soybean

Fermented soybeans get used in making soy sauce, as does wheat flour. So, traditional soy sauce has gluten.

htt ps://en.wikipedia.or g/wiki/Soy_sauce

There are gluten free soy sauces and I have this one here at my house.

"Soy has gluten CalCan. Did you post a warning?"

Ok, fine. Tamari. ;)

I don't use recipes per say... but you can use these ingredients as substitutes.

Coconut Aminos as a replacement for Soy Sauce. Less salt than low sodium and a lither and sweeter taste. I buy in gallon jugs.

Edam and Mung Bean noodles. They are high protein and don't require meat. Also they cook fairly fast compared to regular linguine. Just eat proper proportion, until body gets use to digesting it. Will stick to your ribs for lunch.

Cold pressed virgin coconut oil and pink sea salt instead of butter.

2 cups of coffee a day... a square per cup, of 90% cocoa and sugar, to sweeten will give your body nutrients needed for nervous system.

Apple sauce instead of oil for baking cakes.

Old fashioned Oatmeal is naturally Non GMO due to its complex structure, which is too costly to genetically modify. Can be used as filler for hambuger meat.

Thick cut Potato chips made with sea salt, and Pepsi with sugar will help boost and activate migraine med quicker when needed. Caffibe ans cain sugar with potassium boost from taters help push meds into your system.

Your cured ham too salty... boil it in milk. Milk will pull salt out of the ham.
If your pot of soup is too salty cook it with 4 large peeled taters. They will release potassium which will bind to the salt.

How to cook Jasmine rice in a common pot. Follow cooking instructions for proportions of water to rice. Set on high to achieve a boil, quickly turn down to low and cover for 30 minutes. If low is too high in electric range use the small burner. Turn off and set asside to cool for 10 minutes. Fluff with fork and serve. No need for a rice cooker and will never go faulty.

"...The proportions of soy sauce to sugar depends on if you are going more for savory or sweet..."

I have to be careful with that. Phoebert doesn't care for sweet in his entree - no honey-baked or pineapple glazed ham in our house!

I was surprised he liked the broccoli salad the other night - it includes blueberries and dried cranberries.

calcan - "We do something close but it adds some maple syrup and brown sugar. Great recipe!"

I was thinking something similar. Soy sauce, brown sugar and ginger is a basic teriyaki marinade. The proportions of soy sauce to sugar depends on if you are going more for savory or sweet. I usually do something close to 50/50 for my salmon marinade.

I found this recipe in a cookbook written by a salt water fisherman - organized by what you'd find all around the coast of the US - from Maine to the Gulf and then from southern California to Washington state. It was an interesting read but neither of us fish and eventually I donated it to someone else - without making note of the title.

Phoebert rarely eats salmon in restaurants because he claims theirs can't be as good as this!

Soy Marinade for Salmon

1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium or regular)

1/4 cup sake or dry sherry

2 Tbsp vegetable oil

1/2 tsp dry mustard

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp ginger (I've used fresh or the paste in a tube or even powdered when desperate)

Marinade steaks or filets for an hour or two (turning steaks and skinless filets halfway through time)

Broil 1" steaks 5 min per side or filets 10 min per inch of thickness

Baking at 425F for 15-20 minutes without turning also works

Also can be grilled but I have no idea of timing - we don't own a grill

Can't remember where I found this simple recipe -

Salmon Patties (serves 3 or 4)

1-14.75 oz can salmon

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 egg

Mix well, form into 6 or 8 patties, pan fry in a tablespoon or two of olive oil until browned and warmed through. (just a few minutes per side).

I serve them with a garlic dill sauce because they can be dry.

1 cup water

1 1/2 tsp garlic flavor Better Than Bouillon

1 tsp butter

1 Tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water

Bring water, garlic base and butter to boil, stir in cornstarch slurry, continue stirring over med/low heat until thickened, add dill to taste (1/2 tsp or so).

I kind of wing it on proportions for the sauce - that's my best guess.

Love how versatile cauliflower is. We find ourselves using it as a base for so many saucy recipes to make them a bit healthier. This is a recipe we've made a number of times, but substitute milk and a little sour cream for mayo because the Mrs. and one of the kids hate mayo. I think it's a Food Network recipe we originally used.

Deviled Cauliflower - from The Uncommon Gourmet by Ellen Helman

Break a head of cauliflower into florets and steam for 8 minutes, season with salt & pepper.

Combine 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard and a generous pinch of cayenne pepper. Mix sauce with cauliflower.in a baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup toasted fresh bread crumbs and drizzle with 4 Tbsp melted butter.

Bake 15 minutes at 350F

I'm lazy so I just steam the cauliflower a bit longer, usually 12-15 minutes. and serve with dollops of the mustardy mayo on top.

A grape leaf would be a poor size choice.

Melvin, that was an olive branch that can easily be substituted with bay leaf if you prefer.

Easy. You, Meg, and two wildcards with some California herb.

Easily done, as you don't have to use all of it every day and you can come up with many different combinations. Easier that opening and closing a window.
