Thinking about the late great Steve Cropper. We both grew up in Memphis. Steve would sneak into black churches and clubs and was mesmerized by the local sound. He later became one of the few white musicians to play and collaborate with black musicians when he wasn't supposed to. We've all heard of Booker T and the MGs where Steve was guitarist. We've enjoyed many STAX hits while Steve was the studio guitarist on many songs like Soul Man and Dock of the Bay. Then later as part of the Blues Brothers. If you aren't familiar with much of his ork, I recommend googling Steve Cropper and enjoy some of his musical contributions.
A few years ago I was fortunate to meet Steve and had a good conversation about his Memphis days and music.
I grew up on classical music and jazz, much to the annoyance of my friends.
Green Onions is still one of my favorite "happy place" songs.
A friend of a friend's uncle is Lou Marini. Nearly lost my shit when I met him in GA.
