Northeast Earthquake

Bensalem, PA, Us

Correct... The ground is harder here in the northeast, compared to the west coast. The harder the ground, the further spread out the tremors will be felt.

In the west, the ground is soft. That is why people would not shake a stick at a 4.8 Richter scale earthquake, because they don't feel it as much or as far spread out from the epicenter... That and, earthquakes that are noticable are rare here in the northeast. The last noticeable one here in the northeast was in 2011.

4.8 on the East Coast is very different than the West Coast. The substrate here is more granite, so an earthquake " rings like a bell". You can see by reports that this 4.8 was felt in 14 states.

4.8. That could wake people up. Other than that, it wouldn't concern many out here in Cali.

Yup, felt it too in Northeast Philly at work. I work on the main floor of an old building. The main floor is one level up from the ground and the basement is ground level. I was standing at the sales counter with both hands resting on the glass display case. I felt the quake in the floor and of course through the glass display case.

Elgin SC (close to Columbia SC and not too far from me) had 100+ earthquakes last winter. I'm expecting a big one any day now.
