The official reason sls gave for shutting down most access to free is fear of prostitution. The feds went hard against backpage and now people are going to jail.
Free ads can push prostitution and without a payment, hard to track and keep off. Pros are looking for the next place to go with craigslist and backpage shut down to them. Sls doesn't want to be that.
I have never said SLS is unique or useless, I was just posing a question. I understand it is not good business practice to allow free members access to everything. However shouldnt they at least be able to respond to an email if a paid member reaches out? I understand most of us use this as a means to keep up on what parties are going on. However I know there are those out there that would like to stay local and do not like party scenes.
I just upgraded from free membership. As free member I could see events and clubs.
True, I could not mail, IM, join groups, see hot dates, but I could see, sign up for, and attend house parties, see what clubs were in an area, see meet and greets, and other such things.
Why would they ever pay if they weren't restricted? This is a business after all.
Well, free members get exactly what they paid for....
Other LS sites are similarly useless for free members, so it's not as if SLS is unique.
