Climate change

I read that the crabs most likely starved to death. They can’t move very fast, or traverse long distances.

Not my theory Current. That was what was stated in the articles I read on this. I will state that there haven’t been any studies that link warming waters to the loss of crab populations but it makes a whole lot of sense. In watching the “Deadliest Catch” several times the captains have mentioned and then lives their ships to colder waters when they can’t catch anything and it usually works in their favor.

An October 14th article was titled "Why did one billion crabs disappear from Alaska waters?". Several articles from yesterday quote Alaska fish and Game claiming a drop from 8 billon in 2018 to one billion this year. One billion was bad enough...

I think it really doesn't matter what happened to them. It's hard to see this as anything but catastrophic. For all we know they could have died. I think it's more likely that Fokkers' theory that they migrated North to colder water is correct. However, even if they did so, assuming they migrated more than 200 miles from Alaska (probably correct since the State can't find them), and assuming that sea the ice continues to move North (anyone doubt that?), and further assuming that the water to the North is a fishable depth (I don't know the answer to that), then it's a virtual certainty that the population will be wiped out by another aspect of human indifference: Namely our complete inability to regulate fishing in international waters.

"Reportedly a billion crabs have disappeared over the last two years."

The report I heard was the decline was from 9 billion to 1 billion.

The naysayers can make the excuses but eventually we will hit the tipping point. Then we will all be fucked and not in a good way and unfortunately we are closer than farther.

In Paris, all governments solemnly promised to come to COP26 with more ambitious 2030 commitments to close the massive 2030 emissions gap that was already evident in 2015. Three years later the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C reinforced the scientific imperative, and earlier this year it called a climate “code red.” Now, at the midpoint of Glasgow, it is clear there is a massive credibility, action and commitment gap that casts a long and dark shadow of doubt over the net zero goals put forward by more than 140 countries, covering 90% of global emissions.

@Fokkers

Reportedly a billion crabs have disappeared over the last two years. Probably warmer water, or possibly a pathogen or other condition fostered by same. Just the tip of the iceberg I'm afraid. Several years ago, researchers at the University of Washington found that ocean acidification through carbonic acid formation due to increased CO2 levels was already making it harder for animals such as oysters to form shells out of calcium. The idea that zooplankton and particularly copepods may ultimately experience the same issue could uncouple the entire oceanic food chain in relatively short order.

"Are we going to destroy humankind?

That is the question."

Sort of sadly, I doubt it. I think humans are at least as resilient as cockroaches. I think we could take an awful lot of climate change. My money is on a weaponized, genetically engineered virus. Perhaps concocted in the ever darkening hellscape we are making of the world as peole begin to fight over increasingly scarce resources like water and food. Or there is the possible pre-emptive strike by a radical organization ala twelve monkeys. Those little assholes in london with the tomato soup seem like good recruits for the army of the twelve monkeys.

The planet has seen much worse and likely will again. it is in no danger of being destroyed by us.

The biosphere, which makes our lives comfortable, together with the beautiful plants and creatures that it sustains, are being destroyed as we speak.

The Alaskan fall King Crab season and the winter Snow Crab fishing seasons have been cancelled because the numbers are down by 90%. One theory is that there were higher than normal water temps 4 years ago and there is a theory the crab may have migrated farther north in the Bering Sea because of that. This is going to devastate the fishing fleets and the local communities that depend on them. So when you go out to eat and King and Snow Crabs are very expensive don’t blame inflation…

Some people buy into whatever CNN , CNBC says . Last summer Project Veritas did an undercover interview
with a Vice President of CNN . He didn’t know he was being recorded on a cellphone . He bragged how good Covid was for CNN . He talked how they would get he called crackerjack so called experts to talk about Covid
He went on to say COVID is over with and they are going to pivot to CLIMATE CHANGE . They will again get crackerjack experts to interview. He said CLIMATE CHANGE will be good for ten years. Project Veratas recorded him on video and of course he didn’t know it but he was gloating how they do this . People you are being worked.

Climate change/ Global warming and whatever the fuck else they call it, has all been a money laundering scam from day 1.

Climate Change has become a religion . The market will come up with a good form of energy . The federal government gave boatloads of money to Solyndra ….Where are they today ? The US taxpayer gave them 535 million dollars to develop this product . They walked away with the money . People like Al Gore , John Kerry and others have made this a religion . Let the free market develop things .

There were a segment of people that didn't believe we had a pandemic, and perhaps still don't. I guess it should come as no surprise that some don't believe climate change is real, and/or that humans as a whole are having any significant impact on it.

On the up-side, if the case for renewable energy means that people will be saving a buck to implement it and/or having control over their electricity costs/availability, people are more likely to go that route regardless of how they feel about climate change.

We've had "climate change" for many thousands of years... ice ages and everything.

Does mankind have an impact? I think so, to some extent.

Are we going to destroy the planet, I doubt it. I look to the super-rich, who have access to the best information we have... and they keep investing in oceanfront real estate, no matter what they are telling us. So, I'm not too worried.

These people that preach climate change have no credentials and just yak . The El Ninya and El Niño the little.
boy and little girl are real weather phenomenon. The heating and cooling of the currents and the follow yearly patterns I forget how they worked but my. Nephew would use these as one of the methods to forecast but these patterns have been happening for ever.

Richards, TX

I used to have a nephew that was a meteorologist, now a meteorologist. Not a metrological engineer who he used to laugh about . He was very passionate about weather and really brilliant . I would ask hi about climate change and he would say these patterns happen again and again then he would quote his hero Joe Bestardi
He would say I was a conspiracy theorist believing climate change. He could tell you the methods they use to
forecast the weather and some are down to past history . He would say a lot f the people we see talking weather are not meteorologists , they might be journalists or meteorological engineers …I remember here in Houston he was working for an international weather company that did weather for the super wealthiest aircraft and the US army .. This was when Rita was supposed to put 300,000 people under water in So. Houston. ..Read about that that was the biggest evacuation in US history ..Your news broadcasters same ones that talk climate change scared people silly People from Houston fled to Oklahoma City . I called my nephew
asked him should I get out of here .? He said go into backyard no look to the SE , what do you see …uhhh a bunch of clouds . He said that is where the storm is coming in I’m coming to bed. . He was right the storm came way NE of Houston .

I feel the same.

But focused on different people.

Now ADD real science El Nino, La Nina effects on weather yearly.. that is one fact that can be shown throughout the years !

One should just take a non partisan science weather class.. explains ebbs and flows of our climate !
