Pineapples

As a couple who has actually put a pineapple in their cart upside down, we have never even gotten an acknowledging reaction. We're just not sure how many people (whether in the lifestyle or a vanilla) know what it means.

It seems to us that if you are out in public and want to discreetly "send a signal" to other swingers, then wearing an SLS hat (or any article of clothing with the SLS or other swinger web site logo) is the way to go. Vanillas will likely not recognize the logo, but swingers certainly will. You can pretty much make up something believable as to what SLS stands for should a curious vanilla ask you about it.

Pineapples, especially in the South, the UK, and the Caribbean, have been symbols of hospitality and sharing expensive food with others. Pineapples were costly to import to the UK and Europe. So, anyone sharing a pineapple with guests in the 1700s or 1800s was a generous and hospitable person/household. If we pay attention to architectural details, especially in the US South, you will find pineapples in woodwork, windows, and wrought iron fences everywhere.

So even back then...sharing was caring.

As has been said before, any "secret" sign that someone is a swinger will not be a secret for long. There will always be people that are clueless, but given how some people love to air the dirty laundy of others, an in-the-know vanilla could make use of these same signs to fuel their gossip engine.

It is unfortunate that some live in such swinger-sparse areas, but for many (most?), there are events and sites like this that you can engage people that you KNOW are swingers. If someone doesn't give a damn if their swinger status is known it's probably not a big deal to push things, but many would prefer to keep that secret from vanillas.

It would kind of suck living around conservative people where you know every time they pass your home they're saying, "That's where the swingers live". Even other swingers may avoid being seen with you at that point for fear of guilt by association.

1). We don't need "vanilla" people understand the "code"
2). Approaching someone you don't know in a grocery store about swinging could cause an embarrassing scene.

That's why it's a "code". Their choice, they're "in control".

I don't know about folks with upside down pineapples. Sure that may be a sign for some, but there are a hosts of folks who have no clue what the significance of an upside down pineapple means.

To me, if you aren't able to communicate verbally, a must is to learn the art of non verbal communication. Both males and females give off telltale signs of when they are sensual, and interested in someone or a couple per se. As for me, I find that to be far more accurate that an upside down pineapple. I

Has anyone ever gotten a response/comment from wearing a SLS pin, hat, etc? while out in the wild? Just curious

FUNLY: Your instincts are right. Who has an eye bolt in the ceiling for anything other than the sex swing? Good people!

fraunhubby68, we are so sure there are swingers in our church. We went to a party at one their homes and the basement was sent up for fucking. I saw a ring on the ceiling that is probably used for a sex swing. They are having another party next month and I will be throwing hints.

“Question: Is anyone aware of technology, or better yet an app with the following attributes.

  1. would be cell phone applicable 2 have a range similar to Bluetooth but would not require actively pairing. 3 would send a notification if it picked up a compatible signal from another phone with the app.”

Check out GPS chirps. They send out a preset message when a reader is in range - some cell phones can read them.

Well, one of the 10 commandments is "Love thy neighbor" ;-)

We were straight out seduced by a sexy couple from our parish, for our first full swap. It was hot.

We have also wondered in church.

A while back we noted that we were one of a very few established married couples who routinely shared PDAs. (Holding hands, arms around one another. Opening doors. Kiss Of Peace actually being a full on frontal kiss) Our parish is pretty reserved that way, so we are outliers. The only response we have gotten from others are along the lines of " Its so nice to see a couple still in love" Gradually we noticed others ( We eliminate Newly Weds).

Whether or not these were people following our lead or not is still a question. We may have not noticed them before.

Paying closer attention to these few in such things as body carriage, choice of clothing, personal grooming, sometimes acting more youthful/playful, there were some similarities.

Of all the percentages I have seen, and there is a very wide range, I feel comfortable at setting swing couples in the .02 and .015 range .

This corresponds to the number of these couples .

I realize this is all flat out conjecture and hardly scientific. Just interesting.

Lcmim , I think it’s a great idea and hope you know how or know someone with the know how to create this.
I’d be lying if as a regular church goer I said I’ve never sat in church and wondered “how many people here are in the LS?”…
This would sure help answer my question!

I am aware of gaydar as a semi mythical phenomenon enabling someone to zero in on a fellow gay person. This based on highly tuned observational skills.
I recently learned that there was/is a chat group by that name.
I am unaware of any app.

But yes it would serve the same function in a different market.

By implementing different coded signals is could be used by any group.

Your talking about “Gaydar”
An app introduced many years ago to the lgbtqxyzlmnop groups to find each other in public places such as stores, bars, concerts, etc.

We played around with an app that provided remote phone control of a vibrator. It would also show other users within range. For the real daring, you could grant control access to someone in the room. I always wanted to wander in a store or hotel conference just to see if it picked up another user. But I never remembered to activate it.

Icmic- I would expect too much misuse of the system. You would have to have a high fee or a complicated process to get approved to use the app.
People would use the app to tell you about your car's warranty. Offer to save you from eternal damnation. Rob you.
They did this with the Pokémon app. Robbers would show they had a Pokémon, people would come running and they would rob them.

This is not strictly about pineapples, but it is in the same vein.
Question: Is anyone aware of technology, or better yet an app with the following attributes.

  1. would be cell phone applicable

2 have a range similar to Bluetooth but would not require actively pairing.
3 would send a notification if it picked up a compatible signal from another phone with the app.

The idea would be that anywhere, restaurant, church, parking garage, camp ground, one could advertise their presence passively. If there was a hit you would know that somewhere within 25-30 feet you would have someone of like mind.

I imagine being at the local market with people with their heads on a pivot.
On a Saturday there are anywhere from 350 to 500 people in our local picking up groceries.
We can not be the only ones.

Of course there would need to be wide dissemination of such an app. I do not believe that would be much of a problem.

We had a yard sale last week and my husband put a pineapple sticker upside down on his enclosed trailer. Later in the day one of our neighbors spotted the sticker and asked him if he was a swinger. You never know, we didn't know, but now..we know.

Damn. I can't even get an upside down pineapple muffin in my local bakeries.
This guy gets the pineapple muffin, 2 sausage rolls AND the baker

Glad someone has had luck with pineapples. I’ve wandered around grocery stores with a pineapple in the front of my carriage upside down, and no one noticed.

C has a necklace with an upside down pineapple she wears when we go out, still nothing.

And I’ve got a camp shirt with pineapples facing every which way, and gotten no reaction.

Beachcomber, I may know that bakery. Maybe we should wander by more often. <grin>
